Here’s my thoughts so far on an Ultramarine combat patrol list. Hoping to start with something I can build to higher point lists, but still have fun at 500pts. 95pts (5power) Captain w/ Relic Blade; Rites of War trait that gives 6” ObSec aura. 100pts (5power) 5 Intercessors w/ Auto Bolt Rifles.

Vanguard Vets can be kitted out the same way, even if Void Armor neuters the claw variant. It's a relevant weakness, along with the weakness to Mortals. At 22.5 ppm they get brutalized by mortal wounds. Because points to wounds ratio is definitely the only defining factor of whether a unit is balanced or not.Whoever manages 40k rules has been mismanaging it for more than a year at this point. When it comes to the rule system 40k is a trash game system. Anybody could write books like these and release them and then pat themselves on their back saying oh great it is the strongest book again!40k on the other hand uses many different keyworded terrain types that have special advantages in game. Terrain placement and type seems to play a much larger role in the game. I make the majority of my terrain, but with so many types to choose from, and having a lack of 40k tournament experience, I don't know what to build. An aspect that plays a role in AoS, but is much less important in 40K, is positioning in combat. All weapons have a range stat, from 1" to 3". A model needs to be in range of an enemy model. When faced with a single model, horde units with just 1" range will struggle a lot more, than smaller units with more range.

I'd rather start with a 40k TO/event accreditation system (similar to officiating in football) and build a framework that way. While I think the current system is fine, if competitive 40k is to gain a higher status amongst its peers (mtg, chess, E-sports etc) then a move to more 'professionalism', for want of a better term, maybe needed.Start Competing! That's where I would start with a competitive NL list, comes in at 1262 points. The disco lord moves strikingly fast and has 1+/4++ while in any kind of terrain. He can get some pretty cheeky warptime turns off and tie up important units. The terminators are really insane in NL and I'd almost always spend at least 3 CP on each squad. It seems like most anything with a 9E codex is competitive, apart from Necrons (edit: and even they had one placing). Everything else is relegated to being allied in or kicking rocks. BrendanimaI • 2 yr. ago. Absolute winrates do not tell the whole story in any competitive game, much less 40k, and the real lack of high placings for Crons post-codex really does solidify them as a tier 3 army currently. Most Necron players would agree with GH's placement of them currently as would a lot of actual competitive players. Certainly none of the active ones ...

Seems like GW is extremely determined to wipe Orks off the face of competitive 40k. We received the melee nerfs, we received the horde nerfs, we received crippling points nerfs, and now they've taken away the Souped Up Shokka. At least we're not GSC I guess.

The general army rules are nowadays very condensed already. Look at any index to see that faction rule, detachment rule, 6 stratagems and 4 enhancements are all on the first couple of pages.
