Our Story. As a mother-daughter team, we created Trades of Hope after learning about the atrocities women face around the world (and the U.S.). The lack of jobs for women forces mothers to give up their kids to orphanages, increase women’s risk of being trafficked, and keeps them in a cycle of poverty and social oppression. Women make up nearly half of the entire Canadian workforce, but the perception still exists that certain jobs - particularly those in the skilled trades - should only be done by men. In reality, women excel in all traditionally male-dominated careers, including those in construction , manufacturing , automotive , mining , welding , and more. The theme for 2021 International Women’s Month is “choose to challenge.” One way you can do that is by challenging stereotypes, especially as they relate to gender and occupations.
