A Paladin's Vow is everything to what they aspire and attempt to be. Breaking that Oath is what leads to an Oathbreaker, not technically being evil. Being evil will do it however. For other subclasses, turn on nonlethal damage and you won't accidentally break your oath. Not sure how it would work with vengeance though. Maybe it because you got into the base non aggressively but as soon as your inside you start killing. Might count as an oathbreak.
